If there were a master class in purchasing a roaster, maintaining it, and then transitioning out of it to a larger roaster, then the seller of this machine should teach it. Everything about this 2022 5kg San Franciscan SF-10 with optional 2024 VortX 450 EcoFilter afterburner is impeccable. Let us fill you in...
The owner purchased this 5kg SF-10 directly from San Franciscan in 2022 for his roastery, a beloved small-town coffee spot in the Pacific Northwest. Just like the locals it serves, this roaster has been a welcome fixture in the cafe — and a striking centerpiece against the cafe's bright and airy setting.
This copper beauty has had a pretty easy life. It roasted one day a week (200 lbs) for 18 months and then bumped up to about two and a half days a week (400-600 lbs) for the last six months. The owner reports no major issues, with regular maintenance performed from the start.
As the cafe's—and its coffee's—popularity has grown, so has its need to expand production. The owner has decided to move coffee production offsite, and into a bigger roaster, so he's letting this one go.
A beautiful copper San Franciscan, only two years old, in excellent shape, responsibly handled and with relatively low roasting hours—what more could you ask for?
As luck has it, the owner is also listing the attached 2024 VortX 450 EcoFilter (used less than one year!), a smart afterburner alternative, as an optional add-on for $12,500. It's optional because a roaster of this size usually doesn't require an afterburner solution. However, the owner opted to add one as a friendly gesture to his patrons and neighboring businesses.
This innovative, eco-friendly system uses the energy of a cyclone plus the power of atomized water to filter particulates from exhaust air, mute odors, and reduce visible smoke. The VortX 450 also includes the attached chimney (approx. 5 feet), complete with a booster fan inside.
Check out the end of the video below to see this unit in action. (Note: The VortX is positioned on cinder blocks to add the needed height for the attached ducting. Cinder blocks do not come with purchase.)
Here's what you need to know: This entire roaster-afterburner set-up is incredibly dialed in to offer consistent eco-friendly roasting, complete with the attached chimney shown in the photos (approx. 3 feet). However, if you choose to purchase just the roaster, the chimney only up to the Y bracket is included.
The SF-10 is powered by 220v, fueled by natural gas. If propane is required, conversion kits are available directly from San Franciscan Roasters. 50,000 BTUs on this 5kg machine, pumping out 10 lbs. p/batch.

Cooling tray sweep (which is pivoted off two lifetime bearings)
Drum sweep

The San Franciscan is ETL approved as all electrical components meet the Electrical Testing Laboratory regulations.
Hot air flow is controlled through the roaster chamber by a hot air damper.
The roaster lights automatically and the burner is easily seen through a sight hole.
All San Franciscans are powder coated with powder baked on at 400°F making the surface very durable.
The San Franciscan Roaster is made of 100% schedule 40 steel and contains no cast iron to enable it to withstand constant heating and cooling without any deterioration.
The faceplates are 5/8ths inch steel.
San Franciscan Roasters are compatible with most data-logging programs and your choice of data logger can easily be built into your new roaster.
Our roasters are handcrafted with the highest quality materials available.
That’s one of the many reasons why our roasters are known the world over! Our roasters are also scalable, using the same components and general design. For instance, if you train on the SF-1, you’ll be able to transfer those skills over to the SF-75!
Each San Franciscan Roaster perfectly marries old-world style with modern advancements.
We designed our roasters this way in order to produce a machine that’s as useful as it is beautiful. Our roasters include highly responsive temperature probes to measure bean and environmental temperatures. They are also compatible with most coffee data-logging technology. This makes compiling information a breeze so you can produce the perfect roast, every single time.
San Franciscan Roasters offer roastmasters complete control over their roasts.
As such, we can customize your roaster to fit your exact needs and specifications. Our machines are truly one-of-a-kind and are built to last a lifetime.

Once a Used Elite equipment sale has transacted, what’s involved in relocating the equipment?
Once the seller confirms full payment has been received, CEPros will move on the previously scheduled equipment prep and engage the crating company and freight company. Or, if optioned, CEPros will facilitate a buyer pick-up.
CEPros requires crating companies to take photos of the equipment crating that are reviewed and approved by us before freight is scheduled. This assures a safe equipment transport.
Once the crating photos have been approved, CEPros notifies the buyer the equipment is ready to ship and confirms the delivery address and buyer's schedule.
All shipments are insured and include an appointment delivery time that works with your schedule.
