ROAST CHAMBER
Patented Open Chamber Roasting (OCR) with an open, stainless steel chamber for a full sensory roasting experience; heated by electrical element bank with immediate heat response.

CYCLONE
Over-engineered extraction system removes dust, chaff, smoke, and hot air from the roast chamber; collects all foreign particulates into removable collection bin; extracts diluted exhaust air.

Roast Chamber

The roast chamber consists of a precision cone-shaped stainless steel tube with a perforated base. Hot air enters at the base, centrally lifting or spouting all the beans. As the controlled air flow dissipates, the beans cascade down the chamber walls and recycle down to the hot air lifting point. This allows you full control over the roast’s conduction and convection balance, managed by the temperature controller and sensing probes (thermocouples) built into the roast chamber.


Cyclone Extraction System

Initial dust, smoky air, and chaff given off during the roasting process are immediately extracted, diluted with excess air, and passed on to the powerful cyclone unit.

With extremely high efficiency, the solids are separated from the air and collected in a removable container, periodically emptied as needed. The cyclone fan then discharges the treated air to the atmosphere.

When you’ve identified your roast is complete and the heat is switched off, you have the option to apply a fine mist of water onto the top of the roast chamber to cool it and prevent continued roasting.

Touchscreen Interface

The touch-screen interface charts five graphs in real time:


• Element temperature
• Bean temperature

• Bean Rate-of-Rise (RoR)

• Blower speed

• Element control

‌It also records First Crack, development time, percentage of the roast time, and the total time of the roast.

Work Station

Includes control dials, adjustable LED work light, mesh dust extractor, and bean retainer lid.

Cooling Tray

When ready, the beans are dropped through an exit chute into the cooling tray with agitator arms churning over a perforated bed to reach ambient temperature.

The Key considerations were: 

• The Air-Motion Roaster has an extraction fan and cyclone system which continuously removes chaff during the roasting process. By immediately removing the chaff from the roast chamber, the chaff does not get a chance to combust and therefore not causing additional smoke or carbon monoxide gas.

• It separates the chaff from the air stream where it deposits the chaff into a chaff collector bucket before exhausting the gas stream into the atmosphere, therefore low total dust concentrations are expected.


• The Air-Motion Roaster uses electricity instead of conventional combustion of hydrocarbon-rich fuel for heat generation, therefore low concentration of combustion gases directly emitted from the roaster are also expected.


• The final point also refers to the low VOC emissions from the roaster due to ambient air being used for cooling and diluting the existing gas prior to exhausting to atmosphere. This is very important that mainly during the development stage and after First Crack, the beans do give off some smoke, and smoke is smoke, however it is so diluted in the cyclone system that by the time it exits the exhaust it becomes so diluted that the readings are negligible.
